Learn German by putting it into practice

Knowing a German word and using it in a conversation are different skills. Kila brings AI conversations, writing feedback and pronunciation exercises together so you can practise making yourself understood, one sentence at a time.

Start with sentences you can use

If you are beginning German, work with a small set of complete sentences before trying to explain everything. Introduce yourself, say where you live and describe what you would like to do. A useful starting pattern is “Ich möchte …” — “I would like …”. Change what follows it to make the sentence relevant to your own day.

Keep the article with a new noun: learn “der Bahnhof” rather than “Bahnhof” alone. Then place it in a sentence such as “Wo ist der Bahnhof?” (“Where is the station?”). These are suggested practice examples; the exercises available in Kila depend on your learning language and progress.

Make word order part of your practice

German word order is easier to notice when you compare sentences about the same situation. Try “Ich lerne heute Deutsch” and “Heute lerne ich Deutsch”. Both mean that you are learning German today; notice where the verb stays when the opening changes.

Use Kila’s writing feedback to examine a sentence you have produced, then write another sentence with the same pattern. Working through the correction yourself helps you move beyond recognising an answer in a multiple-choice exercise.

Build confidence for a back-and-forth exchange

AI conversation practice gives you a place to form your own responses. Aim for a short exchange: answer a question, add one detail and ask a question back. For pronunciation practice, focus on saying a short phrase clearly before making it longer.

If you already know basic German, use a familiar topic to practise explaining why, comparing two options or describing a past experience. Kila tracks learning progress and supports language-specific skill settings, so your next practice session can build on your previous work.
